Um, if I may. Treat ghosts/spirits the same as you would a living person. After all they are human...just not physical anymore.
Don't try to get too close to them without asking permission first. After all you wouldn't want a "stranger" to get really close to you to stare at the pores in the skin on your nose. That would interfere with your comfort zone. They probably wouldn't like it either.
Just talk to them. Normally there is a reason why they are there. If you can hear them then have a conversation. You may be able to help them. If you can only see them then at least tell them of the ways they can be helped.
