| There does seem to be something which sometimes seems to cause an entombed body not to decay, but I don't know that there is any agreement on what causes this (beyond the standard conditions for mummification: extreme dryness, cold and/or complete lack of oxygen). My ignorance doesn't mean, however, that the conditions are not well understood by experts. In any case it might just be more or less of a coincidence that his was one of the bodies that this happened too (helped on by his instructions to examine his interred body allowing people to discover this). Another conventional explanation is that when he knew he was going to die he took massive amounts of a poison that acts as a preservative. There might, of course, be a secret tradition providing the recipe. And of course, something may be going on that is just plain beyond our present understanding. That I can propose slightly plausible vauge explanations doesn't mean that they are true. |

| It is written that his body is not mummified. Also, it is now on open display, (even though in a glass box with some air conditioning). And some people are allowed to touch it, I think only on buddhist holidays. There are some The Russians even have called a gathering o various scientists and other interested parties in 2005 to examine the body under more scientific method. Also see: Yahoo! 360° - Events and non-events, a loose record - Hambo Lama Itigilov 2005 There's much more on him written in Russian. Some very interesting. There are some more photos, too. There's a larger photos on: Russian article on Itigelov with photo There's also a photos of a the body without any clothes. Apparently it was taken when the body was examined but it leaked to internet: http://images.newsru.com/pict/id/lar...1205160523.gif
