My feeling is that meditation or yoga practitioners who claim paranormal feats could do more for mankind by offering themselves for scientific observation and testing than they could by preaching a few religious platitudes (not that there is anything wrong with that).

As far as I know some experienced meditators were indeed "offering" themselves for scientific studies.
Several times "sponsored" by the Dalai Lama.
