Hello there,

What is the principle behind Yoga? I have heard that it can cure many health problems and illness. Could you please provide me details.

Yoga stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system. The parasympathetic nervous system is used in the body's normal recovery from a stress reaction, so stimulating it is a way to counteract stress. Since stress can cause disease, anything that helps counteract stress can help with healing or prevention of disease.

Yoga can also help restore full range of motion. As a person goes through life stress has a tendency to make muscles tense and this tension accumulates and over time people lose the full range of motion in their joints. This is why old people tend to hunch over and walk with shuffling gait. By restoring full range of motion or preventing loss of it, a person will be able to get more exercise in general and be more active and possibly avoid back injuries from poor posture. Exercise also helps prevent disease so anything that allows people to be more active will help in that way too.

Yoga is also good for the spine. Most nerves in the body go through the spine and the body controls many internal systems through the nervous system. Any misalignments in the spine can effect these controls so a healthy spine will help keep the bodily system functioning correctly.

There is all kinds of yoga with all kinds of benefits. Traditional yoga is to join yourselves with the source. It is a process of discovery of who you are. Through the various yoga techniques we can prepare to join our selves. Traditional Indian Yoga has many techniques/practices and there are other forms /practices you can do. There are physical, breath, deity worship, sounds, mantra's, symbols, and other stuff you can do. Too much to list. The important thing is what is it that you want...what are your questions and are you willing to do what it takes to expand you consciousness and open your heart. It is a fulfilling journey, but please do more than just be a tourist...

Default a BIG question :-)

In my opinion, Yoga is a view for new and better life.

It is freedom and health...

We can say a lot about it, but we can not resume it in just few words.

You should experience it, practice it and ultimately LIVE it.
