Default Episode 90: NDEs

In this episode, Dr. Penny Sartori mentions how people who try to explain what happened in the emergency to revive them. Except for the patients who remembered an NDE, they were all wildly off. This is representative of a syndrome I've seen in other areas of psi also: skeptics will claim that there are so many possibilities, that when they happen to coincide in an inexplicable manner, it is just a matter of chance. What this doesn't take into account is that most events aren't propelled by random factors, or forces that would cause randomized results. It is like suggesting that of all the people driving to Chicago from California, some will randomly arrive in Hawaii. Both places might be in the US and have roads, but the roads aren't connected.

With Sartori, she exposes this kind of problem by pointing out how little lay people actually know about emergency procedures, particularly because it is based on media or cultural sources as opposed to direct observation.

Some NDE's :iands.org - Newest Accounts
They aren't all of the same quality, but some are very interesting. One thing I like about NDE's over OOBE's is that they frequently contain a spiritual component, but OOBE's rarely have this.

Very true. In fact the Gabbard/Twemlow studies found that spiritual content is much more likely in a lucid dream than in an OBE.

However if you do go hunting for a spiritual experience in an OBE you certainly can have one. William Buhlman is very good on that.

The way I look at it, and defined in the taxonomy of the paranormal that I made for my book, the question isn't whether you leave your body or are having an NDE, but where you go, or where you focus your attention. That is the difference. If you focus on the material universe (Mundus Limus) it is an OOBE. If you focus on the Mundus Alo or Mundus Sublimis, then it is an NDE. Otherwise, it is the same.
