Episode 90: NDEs In this episode, Dr. Penny Sartori mentions how people who try to explain what happened in the emergency to revive them. Except for the patients who remembered an NDE, they were all wildly off. This is representative of a syndrome I've seen in other areas of psi also: skeptics will claim that there are so many possibilities, that when they happen to coincide in an inexplicable manner, it is just a matter of chance. What this doesn't take into account is that most events aren't propelled by random factors, or forces that would cause randomized results. It is like suggesting that of all the people driving to Chicago from California, some will randomly arrive in Hawaii. Both places might be in the US and have roads, but the roads aren't connected.
With Sartori, she exposes this kind of problem by pointing out how little lay people actually know about emergency procedures, particularly because it is based on media or cultural sources as opposed to direct observation.
