But like I said, it's very subjective and moderation isn't a job I would want.
He was saying that without the ability to insult each other and without humor at the expense of others that the forum was not going to work. The reason we have the new rules is precisely because there have been a large number of complaints about those specific things.

There are other forums where that kind of behavior is tolerated. This is not one of them.

If it is a clear violation of the new rules, probably not, unless there is a special reason to do so. I thought everyone could see the reasons posted for each deletion, but it looks like that message doesn't display for non-moderators. Making posts about them would clutter threads, but I don't mind sending PMs.

I guess I still see the comment expressing their opinion and criticism about the events and changes more than directly going after anyone, but again, subjectivity. Thanks for the reply.

I think we should give the new rules a chance, even though it feels like we are being a little constrained.

I have to echo some of the other posters on this thread; I come here to read and comment on the topics (mainly consciousness), but all too often it is easy to get sucked into reading the tit-for-tat insults and jibes. I think the reason for this is because, basically, it's easier than trying to think through the quality, serious points that people make. There is only so much time to participate, so perhaps it is better to have more moderation to keep the standard of the board higher.

So thanks for taking the time Paqart (you might need a lot of it), and let's see how the community organizes itself around the new rules.

Yeah, I think sending a PM would be appropriate, otherwise we might not realise that a post was deleted!

I would have done it to begin with, but thought everyone could see that posts were deleted and the reason given. Apparently this info is not visible to others, so I'll PM it. I am hoping this will start self-regulating pretty quickly, but initially there had to be some clean-up done.

Might it be able to be set in the 'global' rules for deletion that the poster gets a notice with the reason? Thinking this might save some work, you hinted that moderators get notice or is it they can just see the reason for the deletion.

It would be nice to keep the personal attacks to a much lower level.

I hope it does not eat up to much time.

Remember that Andy does this as a free service to all of us to try to make this forum more interesting. We don't want to give him extra work!

I do understand that. But I also think if someone is going to have posts deleted, they should be told. Otherwise they'll have no idea (unless they happen to go look for it) and won't even perhaps realise they've done something that goes against the rules!
