I am very much out of my field with this, but I'm fairly certain this has been done with QED "quantum electrodynamics". It's been called one of the most successfull quantum theories to date apparently.

Yes, Scott (if I've read him correctly) appears to be saying that above a certain level objects can be described or treated classically - a virtual truism, as I understand. However, larger and larger objects are being treated in quantum mechanical ways so I don't see that it can be said with any confidence which level can be treated without recourse to QM.
