I listened to this episode today (sorry I'm kinda late). I found it ininterresting at best. There was no meat to it. It was just a "bashing the sceptics" like Alex enjoys.

I was disapointed by Dr. Julie Beischel. She didn't seem to know what she was talking about (it was even funny the way Alex was praising her at the same time, just because she shares his belief system); Like Alex had to explain to her what the "Skeptics' Guide to the Universe" was, and other stuff like that. She should know that kind of stuff. It's like one of the previous guest still calling the CSI CSICOP, even if the organisation change the name a few YEARS ago. But they're suppose to be experts. Yeah, suuuuuuurrrrrrrre.

And of course anyone should be ashamed of saying that Psi research is more important than cancer research. That part was really shocking. You must be really really far up there to state something like that. And when Alex said that, she was just like "yeah, sure, of course". Shocking. A shame. Nothing more to say about this.

I would advice Dr. Julie Beischel to read the skeptical critics of her mentor, Gary Schwartz, because it's obvious she hasn't done it. I don't think it's gonna change her mind, because it was fairly obvious that her conviction comes from her grief about her mother...

In the episode with the skeptics rogues, they point out some advices she gave to Alex and who were really not sound. This episode just confirms that first impression.

I don't think that's neccessary. Simply reading the words of Schwartz should be more than enough to convince anyone that he is a total crackpot flake, even without the benefit of skeptical commentary. Schwartz is either dishonest, the most guillible person ever, or just plain bonkers. Perhaps he is some combination of all three.

His protocol for testing mediums is actually pretty good but he himself has no credibility.

p.s.: are you American?

No, I'm a belgian living in Japan. My native language is French, so I do make mistakes in English. Sorry about that.

IMHO, English and American speakers usually make the worst grammatical mistakes!

I heard this during the podcast and had to check the transcript to be sure, here is an interesting quote:

Julie: So, you can control the phenomena right out of existence.

Unfortunately Alex didn't follow up on this comment but went on with their conversation.

If you CAN "Control" the phenomena out of existence that means it doesn;t exist!!?? WTH?

Obviously, even very smart people can be deluded.
