| | The Life Between Lives - Dr. Michael Newton Quote:
Michael Newton is a California state-certified Master Hypnotherapist, a member of the American Counseling Association and founder of The Newton Institute. He is an author of books on past life regression. Atypically, the emphasis in his style of regression is not on prior lives themselves but rather on episodes taking place between them, such as spiritual progress reviews and the planning of future incarnations.
Books
* Journey of Souls
* Destiny of Souls
* Travellers' Tales
* Life Between Lives: Hypnotherapy for Spiritual Regression

| | Delurking lurker here.
I can probably guess the average responses from most people across the board and it mostly comes down to how reliable a means of accessing memories hypnosis is regarded.
Believers: It's all true.
Undecided: Interesting if the memories are genuine but entirely unfalsifiable.
Skeptics: Confabulated balls.

| | I've read his books.
I find them to be very engaging, but there's a part that bothers me.
The souls, or higher selves, seem to act like parasites of some kind.
With the human being the host, they just make it serve their will.
I'm not sure of what to make of that. |

To me that sounds kinda backwards....
Arent you the soul, the "thing" that experiences the body? |

I think that, according to the hypnosis sessions, I'm a hybrid of a soul and
a human.
The question is, where does the human itself go? Or is it just a vehicle
that can't really feel anything? |

My understanding is that the human is just the body, not the thinking part of us. I think that each body can be a little different for the soul to inhabit based on it's genes. So, for example, if my soul is naturally excitable and fiery, but I choose a body who's genes are programmed for docility then I may not be as tempermental as I would be in the body of someone who has more aggressive genes.
That's how I took it when the subjects were talking about the different "personalities" of the human body. Because, I believe, he asks one of the patients what a human would be like without the soul and they say something like the human would be very primal and instinctual. |

In the books, they allude to animals even having souls, even though they're not the same kind as us (souls that inhabit humans). So, what would it look like for a living thing not to have a soul? Would it be like.... mice? Like.... insects? Like.... plantlife? I don't know.
I think I know where you're going with this because I asked myself the same question. When I die, is it me that will survive or some other being that just hitched a ride and experienced my experiences with me? I personally think that it is me that will survive. The person that's sitting right here at this computer questioning souls and consciousness is the soul that will survive. There is no other "me". |

The ego or mind, or what ever you want the call it. Those primal insticts, such as fear and anger might go with the body. Dont see that as a bad thing
Would recommend reading Eckhart Tolle's books "The power of now" or "New earth". He also has a selection of recording from his sessions. You can download them if you know where to look....If you liked Newtons books, I'm sure you will love Eckhart Tolles work. | |
