Lost my mom's ring - please, please help

My mother passed away 17 years ago. She left me her diamond engagement ring, which was my father's mother's engagement ring. I have been holding it for my oldest daughter, who loved my mother dearly and who wanted that to be her engagement ring. Well, her boyfriend asked me about the ring and so I went to the safe deposit box where I thought I put it but it is not there. I might have it at home but I don't remember. Last time I was in my safe deposit box was a year ago. I am crying, distraught, can't sleep. That ring represents my mother to me and this just does not make sense. I treasured that ring. Please help me find it.
