  • Another reason to shun traditional medicine

With an ingredients list that includes rhino horn and tiger bone, traditional Asian medicine is on a collision course with wildlife preservation. Read more here: Biodiversity: Endangered and in demand : Nature : Nature Publishing Group

We must have zero tolerance for this nonsense, traditional medicine is endangering these beautiful animals. We must actively fight alternative medicine.

Yes, let's just continue testing on our closest genetic relatives, and other innocent animals....

Traditional medicines can be effectively used for body's natural detoxification process. Several herbs consist of influential ingredients, which are helpful to cure a number of health problems. They can be used safely, without causing any side effects.

Not only that, there are many other ingredients you can use that don't come from animals. There are forms of Traditional medicine that don't use anything other than energy, let alone animals. The whole practise should not be shunned because a few recipes use animal products. If I were you I'd go after the poachers, who kill the animals and don't use everything...leave them there to rot.

Don't stick all traditions in the same bag.
Indian alternative medicine does not predate on endangered species, for example. Let's be honest: it’s China that’s the main problem as regards this very issue. There’s no other nation worldwide that takes so little consideration into ecology and animal well-being. As a matter of demonstration, the Chinese are about to buy a huge chunk of Tanzanian territory, as to cut concrete roads into it, so to transport all the wood and trees they’re chopping off in Africa en route for China. Will they care about the Serengeti reserve that happens to be on the way? No, of course not! They’re gonna hack it down with bulldozers, cranes and trucks, whatever the price the local animals will have to pay for it, be it going extinct.
If you want to be serious about ecology and animal rights, you better start give it a second though before you buy that product made in China.

Anyone who is interested in alternative medicine - and the criticism of the mainstream one - must read Martin J. Walker's "Cultural Dwarfs and Junk Journalism: Ben Goldacre, Quackbusting and Corporate Science", the exposure of the pseudo-skeptical tactics employed by corporate medical industry against alternative medicine practicioners:
