For those of you dying to come to The Amaz!ing Meeting 8, here is the information:

    James Randi Educational Foundation

Richard Dawkins is the keynote speaker and there's a great lineup of talks and presentations.

It doesn't matter what you believe, you'll have someone to scream at when you attend TAM8.

    Funny

Reading the speaker list, I was hoping for some people who held opposing views to the JREF. Perhaps some parapsychologists or UFO proponents. There doesn't seem to be any. I remember a UK Sceptics society conference not long ago which had a speaker list with a nice balance of viewspoints.

I was wondering Paul, does the JREF send out invitations to speak or is it a voluntary thing?

Nah, we don't bother with balance. It's a science and skeptic conference without the need for balance. Actually, we get balance from Penn Gillette. Oh wait, maybe you mean balance in the other direction. I think a few have been asked but possibly declined.

Both. There is a paper session on Sunday morning where volunteers present papers. Many of the speakers return year after year because the audience loves them: Phil Plait, Shermer, Adam Savage, Joe Nickell. We used to see Richard Wiseman, but now he's occupied with TAM London.

The JREF is never doing well. They are hiring because a couple of people retired recently. It's a non-profit, so you can find their annual statements online any time you want.
